This course will provide an introduction to the contemporary Cuban legal system focusing primarily on the reforms and transformations that have taken place over the last two decades. The course will also provide the basis for an analysis of Cuban law in the context of traditional civil law systems since Cuban law is rooted in Spanish civil law and in relationship to international human rights.  Throughout the course students will be encouraged to engage in comparative analysis of the Cuban legal philosophy and practice. The course will include a one week trip to Cuba.
