This seminar-style course will address the basic questions facing the intersection of Medicine, Ethics and Law. In particular, the course will address the abortion controversy, legal duties to the unborn, assisted procreation, assisted suicide and issues raised by foregoing life sustaining treatment. Developments in the case law in the United States and in Europe will be compared and contrasted. Cases of first impression will be emphasized.
