Construction Activity Report 4/3/08
Hi Everyone,
Well, I'm starting to feel like the boy who cried wolf once too often, because for the third time during this construction project I must tell you that the date for moving into the new building has been
pushed back. Originally set to occur in late-December 2007, the
move was first re-scheduled for Spring Break and then for the April
17-25 period. Now the contractor is advising us that a Certificate of Occupancy is not likely to be forthcoming until the first or second week in May.
Anyone who has had a chance to tour the building recently knows that the offices are essentially complete. Furniture delivery and installation will commence next week. But, without belaboring the details, let me just say that the current delay is related to completion of the two stairwells which, by code, must be ready before the building can be occupied.
The contractor reports that work progress over the next week or two will make it possible to set a new date by which the occupancy certificate should be issued. At the moment, the optimists among those of us closely involved with the project are planning for the move-in process to start on Monday, May 12. When we get official word on a "final and firm" moving schedule, I will share the information with you.
If there is any good arising from this message, it is surely that many of you can breathe a sigh of relief in knowing that you can put off for a few weeks longer that formidable task of packing up all those books, files, paper clips, note pads, and other valuables accumulated during your years of service at Rutgers Law.
Let's also remember that one year from now all the inconveniences and uncertainties of this building project should be but a fading, distant memory.
John
