Construction Activity Report 5/28/08
Hi, everyone,
I learned some helpful information today about the temperature control system in the east building and thought I would share with you the points below:
1. The heating/cooling infrastructure is operated by state-of-the-art technology and the system is highly automated.
2. The east building system is independent of the west building.
3. For the most part, the system is programmed to provide heating and cooling on a building-wide basis and to operate in two
modes: occupied status or unoccupied status.
4. Presently, occupied status is defined as Monday thru Friday, 7 am
- 11 pm and, for the FIRST-FLOOR ONLY (INCLUDING THE MOOT COURT ROOM), Saturday 7am - 7 pm. All other times are treated as unoccupied status.
5. In occupied status, the system is programmed to maintain temperatures within the range of 70 - 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Thus, when the temperature in any area of the building (see #7 below) drops under 70 degrees, the system automatically begins heating the area. Similarly, the cooling feature activates when the temperature exceeds 74 degrees.
6. In unoccupied status, the system is programmed for a much wider temperature range of 65 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
7. Similar to the west building, there is a temperature sensor located in one office, but the unit controls a grouping of three offices. IMPORTANT: If you happen to occupy an office with a sensor, please be aware that your behavior patterns (keeping the shades open on the south side of the building on a sunny day, placing a portable heater near the sensor, opening a window on a very hot or very cold day, etc.) will definitely affect the environment in the other spaces controlled by your sensor.
8. Unlike in the west building, east building temperature sensors in offices DO NOT provide for manual adjustments. The only way you can affect the temperature is by behavior patterns (see #7 above).
9. If you happen to be in the building while it is in unoccupied status, the temperature sensors can be used to switch from the unoccupied to the occupied mode. To do this, press the small white button on the sensor. A green light will turn on, indicating that
the system has changed to occupied status. NOTE: THE GREEN LIGHT
WILL ONLY COME ON WHEN THE SYSTEM IS CHANGING FROM UNOCCUPIED TO OCCUPIED MODE.
10. The system will revert back to unoccupied status after TWO HOURS. If you are working for a longer period in the building, you can always switch back to occupied status for intervals of two hours.
11. Pressing the white button on a temperature sensor will affect not just a local area, BUT THE ENTIRE FLOOR ON WHICH THE SENSOR IS LOCATED.
12. A temperature sensor is located in the corridor on each floor. If you are in the building and need to switch to occupied status, but don't have a sensor in your office, you can always use the one in the corridor.
If you have additional questions about temperature control in the east building, let me know and I'll try to provide answers.
John
