Construction Activity Report 6/5/08

FIRST-FLOOR EAST BUILDING

-- The entire first floor of the east building (classrooms, Moot Court Room, and restrooms) was approved today for occupancy.

-- Summer Session classes with east building room assignments (see http://camlaw.rutgers.edu/students/schedules/schedule-summer-2008.html ) should commence meeting there on Monday, June 9.

-- Although a firm start date is not yet available, demolition activity is scheduled to begin on the first floor of the west building shortly. As soon as more information is available, another construction update will be issued.

-- Please note that there will NOT be room numbers at the classrooms. Instead, at each entrance door a listing of classes meeting in that room will be posted. This situation is necessary only for Summer Session. Room number signage will be installed before the start of Fall 2008 classes.

-- The new classrooms have all A/V features, except the capability of taping lectures. This service is expected to go online within the next two weeks.

-- The IT staff has compiled documentation on using the A/V equipment and will send it to all professors later today or tomorrow.

-- NOTE: The classrooms have on/off light switches, but the lights are activated by occupancy sensors. As you enter a room and flip the switches, the lights won't come on immediately. When the sensor detects movement, then the lights will be activated.

DEMOLITION ACTIVITY SCHEDULED FOR WEST BUILDING BASEMENT (ORANGE LOCKER ROOM AND VENDING MACHINE AREA)

-- The General Contractor has advised that the ceiling in the Orange Locker Room and the Vending Machine Area will be demolished commencing on Wednesday, June 11, and continuing for approximately one week. This is necessary to prepare for the later installation of the basement sprinkler system.

-- During the demolition period, students will not have access to their lockers. Lockers will be covered with protective material, but considerable dust and dirt will be generated by the demolition activity. Valuable items or items that might be needed between June 11 and June 18 should be removed no later than Tuesday, June 10.

-- Similarly, there will be no access to the vending machines or the student refrigerators. This equipment will, howerver, remain in the basement and be available again at the end of the demolition period.
