Construction Activity Report 7/14/08

4:16 p.m.

Included in the scope of the law building renovation project is the installation of fire sprinklers in every occupied space. This work has been in progress for some time now on various levels of the building.

The General Contractor has advised that the 6th Floor sprinkler work will commence shortly. We are waiting on a definite start-date which I will announce as soon as it is available, but I'm giving advance notice that it is likely to be later this week.

The work will involve drilling a 3" or 4" diameter hole in the corridor wall and installing ceiling-mounted brackets to support the single sprinkler pipe which will penetrate each office. There will be some dust and dirt generated by this activity. The IT staff will enclose computer equipment in plastic bags and the Contractor will use protective sheeting to cover desks and furniture. If you have concerns about personal items in your office, you may want to remove them as soon as possible.

Arrangements are being made for the sprinkler installation in Room 609 to be completed either on the weekend or on an evening work shift.

4:44 p.m.

I have just been advised of an important change in the schedule for installing sprinklers on the 6th Floor. The work has been deferred until the first week in August. This provides more opportunity for clearing your offices of any items which you don't want exposed to the installation activity.
