Construction Activity Report 9/16/08

To All Members of the Rutgers Law Community:

A significant portion of the law library collection will be relocated to renovated space commencing tomorrow morning. The moving process is estimated to take five working days. The first phase of the move (approximately 2 1/2 days) will involve relocating the present 4th Floor South collection of journals to renovated space on Floors 4 and 5 North. On Friday afternoon, September 19, or at the latest Monday morning, September 22, the 3rd Floor South collection of state materials will be relocated to Floor 4 South. The state materials will be inaccessible both during the moving process (approximately 2 1/2 days) and until the Construction Code Official approves occupancy of the entire 4th Floor (the inspection will be scheduled either for late next week or early in the week of September 28).

The library will maintain regular hours during the moving process, but a majority of the staff will be working with the movers to insure that the collection is correctly placed in the new locations. There will be one person at the front desk and a librarian at reference to assist students and faculty.

After the library collection is relocated, Floor 3 South will become a construction area for the building project's final phase which includes demolishing the existing space and constructing two new classrooms as well as a suite of offices to house the school's three law journals. Arrangements are being made for demolition to take place on a late-night shift (after evening classes finish at 10 pm).

Floor 5 South and North will remain inaccessible for general patron use until further notice. Anyone needing access to that portion of the collection should seek assistance from the library staff.

Everyone is encouraged to avoid using the west elevators as much as possible during the next five working days. One elevator will be controlled by the moving company. The second elevator will be available for general use, including by the construction crews. Expect long wait times if you must use the west elevators.
