This student run program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service, which for the past eight years has provided comprehensive training each January for the students. They subsequently provide assistance to low income Camden residents needing help to fill out basic state and federal income tax returns. For the three months prior to April 15th, students go to the Camden Public Library two nights a week to staff this project. Student sign up sheets are posted on the Pro Bono bulletin board on the first floor of the law school.
This is an extremely valuable service for the clients in the Camden community. Many discover that they are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, an important yet not widely known federal initiative, and are entitled to substantial refunds.
